Airport Authority Receives Financial Reporting Award for FY2022

SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS……The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting has been awarded to the Springfield Airport Authority by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its Annual Comprehensive Financial Report for its Fiscal Year ending June 30, 2022. The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition for governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

Frank J. Vala, Chair of the Springfield Airport Authority Board of Commissioners stated, “Receiving this award for the 20th consecutive year demonstrates the Authority’s long-term commitment to transparency, prudence, and accuracy in our financial reporting responsibilities. This further underscores Springfield Airport Authority’s enduring core attributes of being innovative, resourceful, and open with our financial performance. The Authority’s annual financial report illustrates our continued commitment of having an entrepreneurial attitude that embraces ingenuity, forward-thinking, operational efficiency, and budgetary discipline.” Vala concluded, “Congratulations are due to the Authority’s staff, as this achievement and recognition is a direct reflection on their professionalism, expertise and diligence.”

The Springfield Airport Authority is a multi-year winner of this award having received it the past twenty (20) consecutive years. To be awarded the Certificate of Achievement, a government entity must publish an easily readable and efficiently organized annual comprehensive financial report whose contents conform to program standards. Such reports must satisfy both

Generally Acceptable Accounting Principles (GAAP) and applicable legal requirements.

The Annual Comprehensive Financial Report has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report.
